Day 1: Arrival in Havana

Arrival at the Havana international airport. Transfer, accommodation and dinner at your hotel Plaza in Habana Vieja.

Day 2:

After breakfast served in the hotel, we leave on a sightseeing tour through the historical centre, declared a world heritage site by UNESCO. We start the tour from the Parque Central, walk via the Paseo del Prado and finish in the Capitolio area of the city. Also included are the visits to the bars "La Bodeguita del Medio” and the "El Floridita” where the world famous author Ernest Hemingway liked to drink and where you can try a typical Cuban cocktail (optional, not included in price). Lunch in a restaurant in the historical centre of Havana. In the afternoon we return to the hotel and travel to Santa Clara.

Day 3:

Early morning breakfast and transfer to Lago Hanabanilla (50km). We start the 1st hiking tour from the Hotel Hanabanilla with the "La Atalaya” walk long about 12km, and an intermediate degree of difficulty. During the walk you will see typical country houses of the area. The walk finishes at Lago Hanabanilla from where we will be taken by boat to Río Negro for lunch. After lunch and a break we will travel by boat to the other side of Lake Hanabanilla where we’ll start our little walk to El Nicho. In El Nicho we can bath in the crystal clear river waters, and set up a camp in time for dinner.
Overnight stay in hotel helechos.

Day 4:

We start the 2nd hiking tour (approx. 12km long) from El Nicho to Parque Guanayara on a footpath via Valle de Jibacoa to the Hacienda de la Gallega. We stop for a picnic enroute. Once we arrive at the Hacienda de la Gallega we can start the "Centinelas del Río Melodioso” walk and go swimming in the crystal clear waters of Posa del Venado. Dinner in the Casa de la Gallega, overnight accommodation in tents.

Day 5:
We start the 3rd hiking tour in the Parque Guanayara and head towards Topes de Collantes. (15 km long, intermediate degree of difficulty). Light lunch in the Hacienda Codina and after the lunch‐break, we continue to Topes de Collantes. Dinner in der Casa de la Gallega. Overnight in tents. After that you can take a look at the village yourself and chat with the local farmers.

Day 6:

The 4th hiking tour (12km long, intermediate degree of difficulty) takes us along the Salto del Caburni – Vegas Grande – Mi Retiro footpath. We will arrive in Salto del Caburni, declared Cuban natural reserve. Here we have enough time to take a quick dip before we continue to Salto de Vegas Grande. Light lunch in Casa de Julio and continuation of the walk to Mi Retiro. Afternoon bus trip to Trinidad.

Day 7:

Today we have planned a sightseeing tour of Trinidad. We’ll visit the Museo Romántico de Trinidad and drink a typical cocktail in "La Canchanchara”. After that, we travel to Bayamo (460 km). Lunch‐break is planned for Camagüey, and after lunch we continue to Bayamo.

Day 8:

Bus journey to Contramaestre and then on to Cruce de los Negros (42 km). Here we begin our 5th hiking tour which leads us to the Hotel El Saltón (17 km). The path goes through coffee and cocoa plantations as well as Sierra Maestra farming villages (intermediate degree of difficulty) and finishes at the waterfalls near the Hotel El Saltón where we will have lunch and still have some free time to swim in the
waterfalls’ natural pools.

Day 9:

Today’s bus ride takes us to the impressive Sierra Maestra. We will have the rest of the day at our own
disposal. Maybe you would like to walk along the river Yara.

Day 10:

The 6th hiking tour begins in Alto de Naranjo. This tour has a fairly low hiking level and leads us to the headquarters of La Plata. We will use natural paths and make our way through a charming countryside. This place is very well known in Cuban history. We will visit Fidel Castro’s headquarter from the time of the revolutionary battles, now turned into a museum. 3km further on we will arrive at the village La Plática. The farmers around here take care of the environment of the Parque Nacional Turquino. You will get the chance to talk to them and get a better insight into their life in that village. We will have dinner here and stay overnight in tents.

Day 11:

Early in the morning we begin our 7th hiking tour. We ascend towards the forest station Aguada de Joaquín. The path is thickly surrounded by rich vegetation and we will see typical Cuban plants such as Pino de la Maestra and Majaguas. In the afternoon we start the second part of this walk which takes us
up and down the mountains (up to 1400 m) where will be rewarded with breathtaking views. In Pico Joaquín (1360 m) we start our 1.5km descent to the forest station "Aguada de Joaquín” where we will have dinner and stay overnight in tents.

Day 12:

The 8th hiking tour starts early again. The land is clayey and rich with vegetation and we climb up past Alto del Cardero (1265m) and Pico Cuba (1834m). The summit of Pico Turquino at 1974m is crowned with a monument to the Cuban national hero José Marti. We’ll reach the summit at about 1pm and have a picnic break.
On our descent in the afternoon, we will walk up and down the mountains of a height between 1000m and 1400m. Eventually a transfer will take us to our hotel Villa Gaviota in Santiago de Cuba where we will have dinner.

Day 13:

Breakfast at the Villa Gaviota. Sight seeing tour of Cuba’s second largest city. Lunch at a restaurant in the city. Afterwards, we will continue the sightseeing tour and visit El Castillo del Morro, the Rum Museum, Plaza Marte and Parque Cespedes. In the evening we recommend a visit to the Casa de la Trova.

Day 14:

Departure to the airport in Santiago de Cuba and a flight to Havana. Arrival in Havana. Sightseeing tour and lunch.
